5 Ways To Support Breast Cancer Awareness

By Dawn 1 Comment

As most of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and you will be seeing pink everywhere! If you would like to take part and help raise awareness for breast cancer, the following are some fun and easy ways that you can get involved and support the cause in October. There really is something for everyone to do, and there are so many ways to get the whole family involved too!

Idea #1: Go Pink!

This is one of the most common and easy ways to support breast cancer awareness! Pink is everywhere in October, and everyone knows what it’s about! Show your support for breast cancer awareness month by wearing pink whenever possible to show your support for victims and survivors of breast cancer everywhere! You can find breast cancer products everywhere, from lingerie to hats to workout gear. Shirts and shoes, even cans of soup and yogurt containers are pinked out in October, so it is an easy way to show you care!

Idea #2: Take Care Of Yourself

October is the perfect time to start taking care of yourself if you haven’t been doing your regular breast self exams in the past. Start now, and vow to do it regularly from now on. Talk to your family about breast cancer and raise the awareness about the risks of cancer, as well as any family medical history. Urge the women in your family to do their breast self exams as well. Talk with your doctor about your breast cancer risk, and take the necessary actions to help reduce your risk and improve your overall health and well being.

Idea #3: Tell Everyone You Know

Spread the word! Tell your family members and friends, the members of your moms group, the ladies at PTA. Make sure that everyone you know realizes that the chances of getting breast cancer are around 1 in 8. Tell your Facebook friends and Twitter followers! Do you blog? Share a quick post reminding women to get checked for breast cancer and know the risks! Main point here? Tell everyone you know, and help spread the word about breast cancer!

Idea #4: Attend A Fundraiser

They are everywhere! Breast Cancer fundraisers, that is! During the month of October, you are likely to find at least one breast cancer fund raiser going on in your area each day! Doing a quick web search can help you to identify the best ones in your area. There are TONS of different fundraisers out there, from breast cancer runs, to clothing stores and restaurants that donate a portion of their proceeds to breast cancer research! I have even heard of comedy shows and concerts that donate a portion of their profits to the cause! These fundraisers are a great way to raise money for breast cancer while still having a great time!

Idea #5: HAVE A Fundraiser!

Another great idea is to have a fundraiser of your own. Have a bake sale or lemonade stand. Even a yard sale with proceeds going to a breast cancer charity are a great way to be proactive about raising awareness! What are you good at? Use your own special talents to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research! This is also a great way to get involved if you have kids. You can teach them the importance of giving back and volunteering in their community while also having a great time and spending some quality family time together. There are tons of fundraising ideas online, too, if you can’t come up with one on your own. Get your friends and family together and do it as a group!

These are just a few ways that you can get involved with breast cancer awareness month this year! Of course, there are millions more great ideas out there. Think outside the box, and you can come up with even more ways to help get involved and raise awareness in your community! Best of luck!

My grand mother had a bi-lat mastectomy in October of last year. I started researching and reading various blogs of women who have breast cancer. My research brought me twitter where I found many women with BC that were willing to offer help. Thanks for sharing, this posts brings hope to others
