Ways To Raise A Green Kid

By Piper 1 Comment

Raising a green kid means that you are bringing up your children to act and think with the health of the environment in mind. It means that you are to making every effort to instill values in your children that will encourage them to respect, protect and value the well-being of the earth and of humanity.

It is no secret that the world is steadily becoming greener, we are growing concerned about our eco footprint and about the products and services we are purchasing for ourselves and for our family, and are making the change to a greener and healthier way of life because of it. Statistics show that we humans play a massive role in the destruction of the environment; air pollution is caused largely from the greenhouse gases, while habitat loss are attributed to deforestation and food degradation is caused by over-processed artificial and genetic modification.

The future of our environment is dependent upon our children because they are leaders of tomorrow. And, In order to secure a world that is healthy and happy, we have to teach our kids the importance of being eco aware, and that education should start from birth. The following are six tips to effectively raise a green child:

  1. Cook and Buy Green Food: Green food refers to eats made minimally with zero artificials and unnatural modification.

  2. Green Playthings: There are eco-friendly toys available everywhere. Look for sustainability seals and other proofs of environmental restoration and preservation efforts before purchasing.

  3. Make Recycling Fun: Educate your kids about what and where to recycle, and make it fun. Encourage them to recycle by rewarding them for their efforts.

  4. Donate With Your Children: A few times a year let your child pick out five items toys/clothes that they no longer use, explain to them the act of selflessness by donating it to a charity or a needy family.

  5. Be A Humanitarian: You and your children can foster animals or volunteer at shelters and parks or be a part of a clean up act. Get your kids excited by telling them about all the good they are doing and they will love it.

  6. Become One With Nature: Visiting parks, going on nature walks, bird watching and star gazing are all wonderful ways to get your child excited about the world we live in.
