Nobody likes to exercise, even those hot bodies you see on TV. Everyone would rather be laying on the couch watching a movie and eating cheese puffs. But, you just can’t do that. It is very important that you find and keep the motivation that you need to stick with your exercise routine. Here are 5 tips to help you keep going down the right path!
Tip #1: Have A Goal In Mind
Set a goal for yourself. Make sure that your goal is realistic and reachable, and not some crazy out there goal like lose 100 lbs in two months. Make it obtainable. So, decide what it is that you want to do. Fit into an old pair of jeans? Run a marathon? Look hot at your high school reunion? Whatever it is, put it in writing so you can keep looking at it. Having a tangible goal is much easier to meet than say, “get skinny”.
Tip #2: Don’t Go It Alone
Take a friend with you when you exercise. Having an exercise buddy holds you accountable, and you can both push each other when you are feeling like lazy bums! Plus, you get a chance to gossip and catch up! Even if you don’t have a girlfriend to exercise with, involve your kids. It’s a great way to spend quality time with them and they will make sure you do what you are supposed to
Tip #3: Don’t Be Boring
Even if you aren’t going to a gym and taking classes, make sure your routine is varied and fun. Write down a list of exercises, or outdoor activities that you actually enjoy. Do you like playing volleyball with your sister? Or what about a dance party with your kids? It doesn’t have to be miserable time doing crunches on the floor. Vary your workout to include many different activities so you don’t burn yourself out.
Tip #4: Focus On The Positive
Even if you hate exercising, focus on the positive aspects of it. Does your gym have some hot guy eye candy that you get to enjoy? Is your hour long aerobics class the only adult interaction you get for the week? Do you love the way you feel after your run? There has to be something positive that you get from a workout, so focus on that!
Tip #5: Get Rewarded
If you stick to your workout plan, buy yourself something small as a reward. Just make sure your reward is not a food reward, that is a bad idea. Buy a CD or a cup of coffee. Go see a movie, or hang out with an old friend. Whatever it may be, you gotta keep the rewards coming!
